Boston In Common: A Jazz Concert

On Sunday, May 19, at 5:30 pm, join us for an intimate jazz concert at Roundhead Brewing hosted by Departure Arts. This one-time special performance features world-renowned musicians with roots from across the globe who all now call Boston their home. Experience the fusion of sounds from Texas, Canada, and Australia, as we celebrate these now local, talented artists.

 

Boston In Common: A Jazz Concert will showcase saxophonist Walter Smith III, guitarist Matthew Stevens, and bassist Linda May Han Oh. This renowned collective has a history of collaborating in a variety of acclaimed groups, and this trio performance promises to be a unique and unforgettable experience.

 

Doors open: 5:30 PM

Music performance: 6:00 PM (60-75 minutes)

Tickets are pay-what-you-can (suggested $15+), all proceeds support your community artists.

 

The concert is family-friendly and will feature seasonal pizzas, craft brews, and ice cream from Roundhead Brewing, Massachusetts's first Latino-owned brewery.

 

Performers:

Linda May Han Oh is a Grammy award-winning bassist and composer from Malaysia, raised in Perth, Australia. She has won numerous awards, including the 2022 Deutscher Jazz Preis and the Bassist of the Year by the Jazz Journalist's Association.

Walter Smith III is a saxophonist and composer from Houston, TX, who is now based in Boston, notably as the Woodwind Chair at the Berklee College of Music. His recent album, "return to casual," released in April 2023 on Blue Note Records, has received critical acclaim.

Matthew Stevens is a Grammy award-winning guitarist from Toronto, Canada, known for his unique style that blends jazz, rock, and ambient music. He has released several solo albums and contributed to over 70 recordings by renowned artists.
